The Season Opening Gala launches the Musikalische Komödie’s 2026/27 season at Oper Leipzig. Framed by “Tacheles – Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony 2026,” the full ensemble presents highlights from the upcoming season while sharing background on the house’s Jewish tradition. The Musikalische Komödie—one of Oper Leipzig’s three venues—specializes in operetta, musical theatre, and Spieloper; its orchestra has a history of over 100 years and is renowned for stylistically authentic operetta performance. Since 2024, Michael Nuendel has served as chief conductor, and the 27-member chorus has been led by Mathias Drechsler since 2008. The gala links a preview of the new repertoire with a cultural-historical focus on the genre’s Jewish roots, shaped by numerous Jewish composers.
