This long-running Ostrava production of Dvořák’s Rusalka, premiered in 2019 at the Antonín Dvořák Theatre, is staged by drama specialist Radovan Lipus. His text-driven approach respects musical tradition while adding a distinctive directorial viewpoint, highlighting the Symbolist and Decadent nuances in Jaroslav Kvapil’s libretto inspired by Andersen and Erben. David Bazika’s sets and Otakar Mlčoch’s video projections create a visual bridge between the supernatural and human realms. Costumes by Ha Thanh Špetlíková and choreography by Jana Hanušová emphasize the contrast between the water world and the Prince’s court. The NDM Opera Chorus is prepared by chorus master Jurij Galatenko, with dramaturgy by Eva Františáková. Musical direction across the run has been led by conductors including Jakub Klecker (music director), Adam Sedlický, Marek Šedivý, and Jiří Habart. The production continues in repertory with rotating casts and is performed in Czech with Czech and English supertitles.
