Zkouška Orchestru – National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, Ostrava

About this event

NDM Drama stages Federico Fellini’s 1978 film Prova d’orchestra (Orchestra Rehearsal) as a Czech-language theatrical adaptation. The translation and stage adaptation are by Martin Stropnický; the production is directed by Vojtěch Štěpánek with set design by Petr Vítek, costumes by Vladimíra Pachl Fomínová, and lighting by Karel Šimek. Original music for the production is composed by Ivan Acher, with David Schreiber advising on instruments and interpretation. The tagline—“The orchestra gathers for rehearsal. Instruments tuned, egos even more so. Every player is a soloist—at least…”—underscores the central theme: the friction between individual ego and collective discipline. Casting mirrors an orchestra’s makeup (Conductor, strings, winds, brass, percussion, harp) alongside dramatic figures (Boss, Union Member, Moderator, Senior, Orchestra Stage Manager). The premiere is on 24 October 2026 at the Jiří Myron Theatre in Ostrava as part of the 2026/2027 season.
