About this event

This production of Ferdinand von Schirach’s play God (original German title: Gott) is presented at the Antonín Dvořák Theatre in Ostrava by the drama ensemble of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre. Directed and designed by Vojtěch Štěpánek, with costumes by Hana Kelar Knotková and dramaturgy by Pavel Gejguš, the Czech translation by Ondřej Šebesta preserves the work’s precise legal and philosophical vocabulary. The staging adopts the form of an ethics commission hearing: a seven-member panel considers 78-year-old Richard Gärtner’s request for access to sodium pentobarbital to end his life. The tribunal layout and audience voting turn each evening into a live ethical deliberation on individual freedom, medical ethics, and the right to die.
