Orchestral Symphony Concert
Austrian conductor Thomas Rosner leads the Orchestre national Montpellier Occitanie in a program grounded in Germanic and Rhenish traditions. The concert opens with Schubert’s Fantasy in F minor, D. 940—originally for piano four hands—heard here in Richard Dunser’s orchestral arrangement, receiving its French premiere. The piece unfolds a tragic, introspective aura where silence weighs as much as sound. At the center stands Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major, spotlighting soloist Anastasia Kobekina, who combines Classical poise with vivid expressivity. The evening closes with Schumann’s Symphony No. 3 “Rhenish,” a jubilant evocation of the Rhine’s landscapes and symbols, notably the cathedral-like solemnity of its fourth movement. Entitled “Rhenish Voluptuousness,” the concert charts a journey from Schubert’s inward lyricism, through Haydn’s elegant virtuosity, to Schumann’s radiant homage to the Rhineland.
