The Duo I Frangini presents “Viva l’Italia! a tribute to the Italian popular voice,” led by two Franco‑Italian brothers. Tenor Pierre‑Emmanuel Roubet sings and plays accordion, while Paul‑Antoine Roubet performs on saxophones and percussion. Created in 2021 at the Opéra des Landes Festival in Soustons, the program has since toured widely across southern France. It traces Italy’s popular voice from Verdi and the Risorgimento through partisan songs and Neapolitan traditions, blending opera and bel canto with popular forms. Themes of resistance (opposition to the Great War, rejection of Mussolini’s regime, social inequality) sit alongside a sun‑soaked lyricism. With an unconventional mix of voice, accordion, saxophones, and percussion, the duo asserts a double lineage: the lyric stage and popular music.
