About this event

This Baroque Series program frames Vivaldi within the sound world of his native Venice. Francesco Corti leads from the harpsichord as LACO players step forward in mixed and double concertos, highlighting the Venetian taste for contrasting solo timbres. Rachel Barton Pine performs two Viola d’amore concertos (RV 392 and RV 394), bringing the instrument’s shimmering sympathetic strings to life. Highlights include the reconstructed Organ and Violin Concerto RV 808, the high-wire Violin Concerto “Il grosso mogul” RV 208 with Concertmaster Margaret Batjer, and orchestral sinfonias from Vivaldi’s Tamerlano and Farnace and Galuppi’s Solimano. Works by fellow Venetian Tomaso Albinoni and Baldassare Galuppi broaden the portrait of 18th‑century Venice beyond Vivaldi.
