About this event

Peter Hacks’ play The Peace reframes Aristophanes’ ancient material as a philosophical comedy in which not only characters but also ideas are thrown into comic turmoil. Peace is portrayed not as a distant ideal but as something within reach, keeping humanity’s situation bleak at times yet never hopeless. Director Christina Friedrich stages the work as a parable of the present: War and its profiteers destroy cities while the gods have locked the goddess Peace in a well. The vintner Trygaios rebels, rides a dung beetle to Olympus, frees Peace and ignites a celebration for those who believe in life. The production blends spoken theatre with original music by Mark Scheibe, a four-voice male chorus, and the marching band “Cottbuser Musikspatzen” e.V., enriched by movement theatre, acrobatics and video design. Set: Petra Maria Wirth; Costumes: Susanne Uhl; Make-up: Karolina Jansova.
