Die Krankschreibung is a world premiere play by the author duo Sokola//Spreter (Ivana Sokola and Jona Spreter), inspired by Heinrich von Kleist’s unfinished fragment Robert Guiskard. Staged at Staatstheater Cottbus’s Kammerbühne by Aram Tafreshian, who previously directed Das Kraftwerk at the same venue, the production relocates Kleist’s material to a dystopian present. Set and lighting by Mara‑Madeleine Pieler, with costumes by Pieler and Tafreshian, conjure a military‑tinged encampment of camouflaged tents around a mobile sweat lodge on wheels amid an arid, desolate landscape. Tom Gatza’s atmospheric music underscores the tension between authority and decay. Seven performers form “the little people,” emerging like glowing fireflies in contrast to five named principal characters, highlighting the collective versus the leader.
