About this event
This piece stages an unlikely encounter: krump—an urban dance born in Los Angeles in the early 2000s—and early popular music from Galicia, Scotland, and Ireland. Bassist Florentin Ginot and dancer Germain Zambi transform this clash of eras and bodies into a living dialogue. Ginot reimagines these repertoires with double bass, electronics, and hurdy-gurdy; Zambi, a world krump champion, seizes the material and answers with powerful, expressive movement. At once a face-to-face and a double solo, their intimate, explosive duet invites the audience in close to share a common vibration. A tri-frontal setup places spectators in a circle, heightening proximity. The musical arrangements filter historical folk material through modern synths and electronics, while krump modulates energy with stomps, arm swings, and chest pops. The circular figure of krump mirrors the cyclical structures of the old music; each performer follows a distinct path while responding to the other.
