About this event

With his scenic cantata Carmina Burana (1935/36), Carl Orff created one of the most popular works of the 20th century. This Braunschweig production is conceived as a major cross-disciplinary project uniting several departments of the theatre. Director-choreographer Gregor Zöllig emphasizes the physical and communal dimensions of the music. The opera chorus, cathedral choir, and children’s and youth choirs perform alongside the dance ensemble to create a large-scale experience where movement and music interlock. Designs are by Jasna Bošnjak (sets) and Imme Kachel (costumes), with lighting by Tobias Krauß. Critics note the work’s sheer theatrical force, using the expanse of the Großes Haus to render Orff’s rhythmic and vocal power palpable.
