The 1st Academy Concert of the 2026/27 season contrasts two Beethoven overtures with two major Strauss works, shaping a dramatic arc from struggle to transcendence. Beethoven’s Egmont and Leonore No. 3 frame Strauss’s Four Last Songs and the youthful tone poem Don Juan. Mannheim-born soprano Hanna-Elisabeth Muller returns to perform the Four Last Songs, anchoring the evening’s reflection on farewell and transience. Under GMD Roberto Rizzi Brignoli, the program links Beethoven’s narratives of resistance and rescue with Strauss’s lyrical acceptance and impetuous passion. A short introduction is offered at 19:15, followed by an après-concert in the Rosengarten lounge.
