About this event

Igor Levit is among the most compelling, versatile and outspoken musicians of our time, unafraid of the most demanding challenges — including Beethoven’s complete 32 piano sonatas. In the 2026/27 season he will perform the entire cycle across concert halls in North Rhine-Westphalia — in Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Essen and Cologne. For his appearance at the Kölner Philharmonie he has selected five sonatas that trace an arc from the young Beethoven, who caused a sensation in Vienna as a pianist, to the threshold of the late works in which the composer repeatedly probes new boundaries. Levit is undoubtedly one of today’s leading Beethoven interpreters. The joint project of Philharmonie Essen, Kölner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Klavier-Festival Ruhr and Heinersdorff Konzerte is under the patronage of Ina Brandes, Minister for Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
