About this event
The Freiburger Barockorchester and Pablo Heras-Casado continue their partnership in historically informed performances by turning to Franz Schubert, following acclaimed Schumann and Mendelssohn projects. This program places Schubert’s Italianate overture and monumental C major symphony alongside Rossini’s dramatic cantata La morte di Didone, illuminating the dialogue between Italian operatic drama and Viennese symphonic imagination. Founded in 1987, the Freiburger Barockorchester brings its transparent, rhetorically shaped sound and expressive clarity, aligning with Heras-Casado’s artistic aim to make familiar works feel newly minted. French soprano Julie Fuchs joins for Rossini’s cantata, with the male voices of Collegium Vocale Gent providing the choral forces. Presented under the Kölner Philharmonie’s Original.Klang and #essentials series, the concert situates Romantic repertoire within a historically informed context.
