About this event

The concert "Towards the Light" brings together the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne under Chief Conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada with the Wiener Singverein and a boy alto soloist from the Tölzer Knabenchor. Two large-scale choral-orchestral works are paired with a major symphony, tracing a journey from existential longing through spiritual assurance to symphonic resolution. The first half contrasts Brahms’s Schicksalslied with Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, both contemplating the human condition through sacred and poetic texts but in contrasting musical languages. After the interval, Brahms’s First Symphony concludes the program, charting a musical path from darkness to light.
