Mahler: Between Passion And Madness – The Tenth Symphony – Kölner Philharmonie, Cologne

About this event

This concert presents Gustav Mahler's Tenth Symphony in a completed performing version. The Tenth occupies a unique place as one of the most significant unfinished symphonies in music history. Mahler left extensive sketches at his death in 1911, and over decades musicologists—most notably Deryck Cooke—have prepared performing editions realizing the composer's intentions. The Kölner Philharmonie frames the program as "Between Passion and Madness – The Tenth Symphony," highlighting the emotional extremes and psychological intensity of Mahler's final symphonic project. The Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden performs under Daniele Gatti, whose interpretations are closely associated with the late-Romantic repertoire. The concert includes a pre-concert introduction and forms part of the Kölner Philharmonie's 40th anniversary season (2026/2027).
