About this event

Version(s) is a dance and music performance under the artistic direction of Dorothée Munyaneza. The project grew from Munyaneza’s meeting with Christian Nka, a former boxing champion from the northern districts of Marseille; three years after meeting, they decided to create a performance together. Ben LaMar Gay, a frequent Munyaneza collaborator, contributes live music and performance. The production uses Nka’s text, body and boxing practice as material. Its performance language combines spoken testimony, dance, boxing movements and live music, making a portrait of Nka while examining masculinity, violence, fatherhood, inheritance and transmission. The design credits identify Maya Mihindou for documentation and artistic collaboration, Camille Duchemin for light, Camille Frachet or Aude Besnard for sound, Paul Brunat or Camille Faye for light management, and Stéphanie Coudert for costumes. The venue notice warns that the performance contains stroboscopic lighting, loud music and deep bass.
