About this event

Esencia is a two-hander presented within the Caja de Burgos centenary program. Two actors inhabit a bare, symbol-laden set by Carolina González that becomes a labyrinth of perceptions, mirroring the play’s core theme: the instability of reality and the porous border between fact and fiction. Lighting by Miguel Ángel Camacho shifts the tone between memory, present-tense dialogue, and ambiguous flashbacks. Directed by Eduardo Vasco, the staging intensifies the claustrophobic intimacy of Pierre and Cecil’s reunion, narrowing the visual field to unsettle what feels real and to echo the text’s metatheatrical inquiry. Costumes include bespoke work by Sara Lamadrid (for Juan Echanove) with tailoring by Sastrería Prats; video design is by David González and production photography by Javier Naval. Abel Feris serves as assistant director and Sara Lamadrid as assistant set designer. The creative team remains consistent throughout the tour from the 2025 Madrid premiere through the 2025–2027 dates.
