Recreo is a flamenco dance work conceived and choreographed by María Moreno around the metaphor of the school playground. “When I was a little girl I danced to play. Now I dance to keep playing,” she says, defining a vision in which flamenco is shared play rather than competition. In this playground there are no winners or losers, only mischievous companions who challenge and surprise each other. The piece revisits Moreno’s beginnings with fellow explorers, questions traditional structures, and widens expressive freedom through the body. Her language, noted for its unquestionable freedom, relies on intuition and organic evolution more than formalism. Presented within Fundación Cajasol’s Flamenco Aparte cycle (Los Jueves Flamencos), the work bears the mark of a Cádiz-born artist who grew up on stage and has turned play into a stage poetics.
