Programa 3 · Temporada 26–27 Oscyl – Centro Cultural Miguel Delibes, Valladolid

About this event

This subscription concert marks conductor Delyana Lazarova’s debut at the Centro Cultural Miguel Delibes with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León. Currently Principal Associate Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Utah Symphony, Lazarova leads an all-Russian program pairing Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 3. Though nearly a decade apart, both works share the key of A minor and reflect their composers’ experiences of displacement and political pressure. The soloist is Midori, the internationally acclaimed violinist with a long-standing relationship with OSCyL. The program contrasts the inward intensity and extreme virtuosity of the Shostakovich concerto with the lyricism and expansive orchestral colors of Rachmaninoff’s Third Symphony, composed in Swiss exile and representing his mature symphonic voice.
