A concert by the Orquesta Académica del Teatro Colón conducted by Diego Censabella. The program pairs Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in D-flat major, Op. 10—an agile, virtuosic score written at age 21 and premiered by the composer in 1912—with Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in Maurice Ravel’s celebrated orchestration. The piano soloist in the Prokofiev concerto is Ivan Rutkauskas. The Orquesta Académica del Teatro Colón is the training orchestra of the Teatro Colón’s Instituto Superior de Arte, providing young musicians with orchestral experience in the main hall of one of the world’s foremost opera houses. Part of the 2026 season, this is a straight concert presentation with no staging or dramatization. Placing Prokofiev’s First Piano Concerto before the interval and Ravel’s orchestration of Pictures at an Exhibition after it creates a classic arc: first spotlighting the soloist, then showcasing the orchestra’s full coloristic range.
