About this event
This concert explores where jazz meets the orchestra through three works linked by the saxophone as soloist. At its center is the European premiere of Wayne Shorter’s Sherwood, originally conceived for clarinet and newly adapted for saxophone at Nicolas Prost’s request with the composer’s blessing. The program opens with John Williams’s Escapades, a concerto drawn from his score for Catch Me If You Can that bridges Hollywood color and concert-hall virtuosity. It concludes with Baptiste Trotignon’s Anima, recorded by the Victor Hugo Orchestra in 2021, fusing jazz harmony with contemporary orchestral writing. Together, these pieces map a path from American jazz-inflected orchestral writing (Williams, Shorter) to a French contemporary jazz–classical synthesis (Trotignon).
