Part of the Alicante Symphonic Season 2026–2027 (“Nature, Life & Love”), the program “La Danza” unites three works under the idea of dance: Smetana’s folk exuberance, the witty virtuosity of Strauss’s Burleske, and the existential depth of Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. It opens with the Overture, Furiant, and Dance of the Comedians from The Bartered Bride, brimming with Bohemian verve. Richard Strauss’s Burleske for piano and orchestra (soloist: Mao Fujita) follows—a compact, youthful showpiece full of sparkling interplay. The evening closes with Rachmaninoff’s final work, the Symphonic Dances, Op. 45, whose rhythmic vigor frames a profound meditation on mortality, including references to the Dies Irae and the composer’s All-Night Vigil. The Czech Philharmonic under Semyon Bychkov brings stylistic affinity and interpretive continuity.
