This concert opens the Alicante Symphonic Season 2026–2027 under the theme “Nature, Life & Love” and marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Alicante-born composer Óscar Esplá (1886–1976). The program pairs Esplá’s symphonic poem El sueño de Eros—his work awarded the Great Vienna Prize in 1911 and premiered in Madrid in 1912 under Enrique Fernández Arbós—with Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, a cornerstone of the late-Romantic symphonic repertoire. The juxtaposition places Esplá’s early-20th-century Spanish musical voice in dialogue with the Central European symphonic tradition of the same era. The Spanish National Orchestra performs under the baton of Oviedo-born conductor Pablo González. The event is produced and presented by the Provincial Council of Alicante through its concert hall, ADDA.
