About this event
“The Wanderer” is a concert program presented by Chatham Baroque as part of its 35th Anniversary Season (2026/2027). Framed as a Renaissance & Baroque Legacy Concert, the program explores themes of exile, pilgrimage, and fate through musical narratives derived from the Anglo-Saxon epic Beowulf and Anglo-Saxon elegies of loss. These vocal and narrative elements are interwoven with instrumental pieces rooted in early melodic traditions, creating an evocative portrait of a world defined by perilous travel, memory, and longing. The performance features Sequentia, the renowned medieval ensemble, led by core members Benjamin Bagby (voice and Anglo-Saxon harp) and Norbert Rodenkirchen (medieval flutes). Bagby’s long-celebrated work with Beowulf informs the program’s historically informed reconstruction of early medieval sound and storytelling.
