The 1st La Scintilla Concert opens the period-instrument ensemble’s series at the Zurich Opera House in the 2026/27 season. Orchestra La Scintilla, founded in 1996 by violinist Ada Pesch, has shaped historically informed performance at the house for decades, continuing a Zurich tradition established by Nikolaus Harnoncourt’s Monteverdi cycle in the 1970s and the Mozart collaborations with Jean‑Pierre Ponnelle in the 1980s. Performing on historical instruments, La Scintilla focuses on Baroque and early Classical repertoire. This first concert brings together works by Jean‑Marie Leclair, George Frideric Handel, Henry Purcell, Alessandro Stradella, Antonio Caldara and others, juxtaposing French, English and Italian Baroque traditions. The duration is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes, including an interval after about 40 minutes. Over the season, La Scintilla also participates in the new “Zurich Barock” festival (12–21 March 2027).
