Classical Hour is a concert format by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra presenting a single work in a one-hour Wednesday evening concert. Each event features one piece, one introduction, and one hour that blends commentary with live performance, giving audiences both context and experience in a compact frame. In this edition, Principal Guest Conductor Sir Mark Elder serves as both conductor and presenter, introducing the work before it is performed. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3—composed in 1909 for his American tour—is renowned as one of the most demanding scores in the piano repertoire. The soloist is the London-based Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov.
