The jealous friend, the resentful rival, the hysterical colleague: when women feel insecure, they often reach for sexist narratives passed down for generations. The familiar idea of “catty” behavior resurfaces. In this performative collage, actor Anna-Lena Hitzfeld and her team investigate the phenomenon of female competition. Starting from Schiller’s famed figures Mary Stuart and Elizabeth—one of theatre literature’s best-known confrontations—the staging asks how these classics can be spoken and understood today. It critically examines the male gaze shaping views of female constellations. Alongside classical acting, the evening includes an everyday analysis based on interviews Hitzfeld conducted with a wide range of women and observations from pop culture. Each performance features a different rotating guest—friends, colleagues, or strangers—to enter into direct dialogue about rivalry and sisterhood.
