Part of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Delta Classical Series 2 and Sunday series, this program—conducted by Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann—pairs two French Romantic masters, Hector Berlioz and Gabriel Fauré. The first half opens with concert selections from Berlioz’s La damnation de Faust, followed by Les nuits d’été, his pioneering orchestral song cycle. Rising mezzo-soprano Juliette Mey appears as soloist in the song cycle. After intermission, Stutzmann leads the ASO Chorus in Fauré’s Requiem, a luminous and contemplative setting that emphasizes consolation over judgment. Solo roles in the Requiem feature male soprano Elijah McCormack and Croatian baritone Leon Kosavic.
