About this event

Presented within the Liszt Fest at Müpa Budapest, this concert unites three orchestral works from the 19th and 20th centuries: Liszt’s tone poem Orpheus, Martinů’s Symphony No. 2, and Brahms’s Symphony No. 2 in D major. Martinů’s symphony has a special link to The Cleveland Orchestra, commissioned by Cleveland’s Czech community and premiered by the Orchestra in 1943. The event falls in Franz Welser-Möst’s 25th and final season as Music Director, coinciding with the ensemble’s 2026 European Tour to nine countries and 13 venues. Founded in 1918 and based at Severance Music Center, The Cleveland Orchestra brings this historically resonant program to the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, honoring Central European traditions through Liszt and Brahms while reflecting the Orchestra’s own history in Martinů’s work.
