About this event

The culture of the Roma in the Carpathian Basin is extremely colourful and varied: Romany folklore is anything but homogeneous, with every community or group having its own distinct, unique features. The culture of the Lovari differs from that of the Boyash, just as the Sinti are unlike the Roma in Hungary or Transylvania. The dances are different in the Upper Tisza region, at the foot of the Matra or in the Southern Great Plain, in Somogy or in the villages west of the Danube, and in the settlements of the Kukullo region or in Szekely Land. The new show of the Duna Art Ensemble presents the different faces of the diverse culture of the Roma, mainly through archaic dances and music. Inspired by their poetry and visual art, the creators focus on the spirit of the Roma, their passionate disposition, joie de vivre, vitality and distinctive societal arrangements. Presented by Müpa Budapest as part of the Liszt Fest in joint collaboration with the Duna Art Ensemble.
