Part of the Het Zondagochtend Concert series at the Concertgebouw, this Spanish-themed program brings together vibrant orchestral color and folkloric rhythm. The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra frames the morning with Turina’s Danzas fantásticas and the Second Suite from Falla’s ballet The Three-Cornered Hat. At the heart of the concert, pianist Thomas Beijer appears as soloist in Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain, music that, in his words, “glows more than it burns.” Across the program, French Impressionist shimmer meets Spanish folk idioms and flamenco pulse—integrated rather than exoticized. Turina’s dances travel from Aragon to the Basque Country to Andalusia, while Falla’s nocturnes evoke the Generalife in Granada, a distant dance, and the Sierra de Córdoba. Expect a concentrated, intermission-free hour of color, atmosphere, and rhythmic drive.
