About this event

This concert is part of the Cello Biennale Amsterdam 2026, marking the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra’s first guest appearance at the festival. The Biennale’s theme, “Shifting Borders,” aligns with the world premiere by Iranian-Dutch composer Aftab Darvishi. Darvishi writes a new cello concerto specifically for Iranian-Austrian cellist Kian Soltani, exploring traditional Iranian timbres through the instrument. The work bridges Western orchestral tradition and Middle Eastern musical idioms. Bringing together two leading cellists—Kian Soltani and Nicolas Altstaedt—in a program featuring two cello concertos and an orchestral suite places the cello at the heart of the narrative. With no intermission and a duration of about 75 minutes, the concert offers an uninterrupted musical journey.
