Between sound, dance, and memory, an interdisciplinary song evening unfolds at Halle 424 in Hamburg’s Oberhafen quarter. A chamber ensemble from the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, with General Music Director Omer Meir Wellber on accordion, joins mezzo-soprano Valerie Eickhoff. At the core are songs by Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler, and Israeli composer Ella Milch-Sheriff—music about the search for identity, the recollection of feelings buried in the sands of time, and resistance to blatant injustice. Choreographer and dancer Andreas Heise gives this intimate sound world a physical language. The program is carried by the spirit of American poet Langston Hughes, whose reflective poetry made him an icon of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. The evening pays homage to his poem “Remembrance” and is presented within the Liedstadt Festival, in cooperation with the festival. Age recommendation: 10+.
