“Rendezvous at Half Past Eight” is a concert series by Deutsche Oper am Rhein in which company artists collaborate with regional guest musicians who work outside the classical opera tradition. The stage of the Düsseldorf Opera House is transformed into a bar, creating an informal atmosphere where a conversation about music and the world comes first, before the joint music-making begins. This crossover format sparks unexpected encounters between different musical worlds. In the 2026/27 season the subtitle is “A musical date”: opera meets jazz, bluegrass and Balkan music. The edition on 22 May 2026, titled “Opera meets Balkan Brass,” pairs ensemble singers with regional brass players from the Balkan brass scene.
