Every Handel opera promises dazzling brilliance. In Riccardo Primo, Baroque bel canto shines as Richard the Lionheart conquers Cyprus and rescues his beloved Costanza. Storms, shipwreck, mistaken identities, siege, and a happy ending: composed in 1727, Riccardo Primo celebrates adventure, nobility of spirit, virtue, and the triumph of love. This concert version is performed by the orchestra and soloists of Les Arts Florissants under Paul Agnew’s musical direction. Several cast members—Hugh Cutting, Juliette Mey, and Andreas Wolf—are laureates of Le Jardin des Voix. The concert format spotlights Handel’s virtuosic vocal writing and dramatic interplay without staging or sets. This tour revives one of Handel’s lesser-performed operas across five major venues in France and Spain in Les Arts Florissants’ 2026–27 season.
