About this event
This concert centers women by pairing two works that portray iconic female figures. Mel Bonis’s Salome, Op. 100 depicts the biblical heroine, while Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, Op. 35 is highlighted as a model of program music, where scenes and characters interweave with command. The program underscores the narrative power of the orchestra to evoke storytelling traditions, from biblical episodes to the legends of the Arabian Nights. Part of the first symphonic concerts of the Orchestre Lamoureux’s 2026–2027 season at La Seine Musicale, it combines the rediscovery of an underperformed French female composer with one of the most celebrated Russian orchestral showpieces.
