About this event

A family-friendly double bill in Hungarian pairs Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne with Menotti’s The Telephone as part of the MVM OperAdventure programme. Andrea Valkai stages both works on a raised platform at the Hungarian State Opera’s proscenium, beneath Károly Lotz’s auditorium fresco, creating an intimate chamber setting. The Telephone is adapted from András Almási-Tóth’s original production, updated to a contemporary business world with shadow-play choreography by Domokos Kovács. Sets and costumes are by Zsófia Mihály-Gerézdi, with dramaturgy/spoken text by Enikő Perczel. The production reframes Menotti’s comedy as a tragicomic portrait of a generation absorbed by phones and social media. First staged in 2024–2025, it returns in the 2026–2027 season.
