As dance stages around the turn of the 20th century underwent sweeping change, a new world of sounds, colors and rhythmic imagination opened up. Under Anton Holmer’s direction, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra traces a journey from folk-inspired playfulness to modernist elegance. The Swedish Ballet in Paris was a driving force in this evolution, both scenically and musically, with works such as Darius Milhaud’s La Création du monde, Kurt Atterberg’s De fåvitska jungfrurna, and Manuel de Falla’s El sombrero de tres picos. Maurice Ravel’s Une barque sur l’océan then glides by like an impressionist dream vessel. A concert that brings the ballet music of a transitional era vividly to life.
