This concert is part of the OSM’s Express series: a 70-minute classical program presented without intermission in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The program draws an aquatic thread through three Romantic-era works. OSM concertmaster Andrew Wan takes the solo spotlight in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, a tour-de-force combining virtuosic technique and sustained lyricism. Conductor Tianyi Lu leads the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal in all three works, opening with Smetana’s river-journey in The Moldau and closing with the shimmering lake world of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite. This Matinee is the concise, no-intermission version of the program; the evening version adds Cassandra Miller’s Dad Goes to the Mountain and includes an intermission. The single Matinee performance takes place at Maison symphonique de Montréal, the OSM’s home hall at Place des Arts.
