About this event

A “composed evening” marking the 145th birthday of Victor Klemperer. Excerpts from his diaries—read by actor Roman Knizka—are interwoven with choral and vocal music to create a dialogue between text and sound. The program features music by Jewish composers who were persecuted, banned, or instrumentalized by the Nazi regime, including works written in concentration camps (Viktor Ullmann, Gideon Klein), Renaissance music by Salomone de Rossi, and music by Fanny Hensel and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Contemporary works by Jewish artists link these historical testimonies to the present. Performers are the Philharmonischer Chor Dresden conducted by Iris Geissler and mezzo-soprano Anna Moriova, with Martin Levicky at the piano. The event is part of the Dresdner Philharmonie’s “Literature and Music” series (2026/27 season “Paradiese”) and of “Tacheles 2026 | Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony.”
