Hollywood meets high society in a hotel setting: Marylou Mackintosh, daughter of a famous producer, has to hold her own in the male-dominated world of Hollywood. She desperately wants to present her father with her own cinematic hit. To this end, she travels to Europe for research, hoping to find inspiration for a film in the exclusive atmosphere of a grand hotel among its aristocratic guests… and it works immediately: The comedy centers on the deposed Spanish Infanta Isabella, her dissolute and philandering Habsburg fiancé Prince Andreas, and room service waiter Albert, who pines for the unattainable Isabella… Paul Abraham's ingenious jazz operettas are finally back at the heart of the repertoire. With "Fairy Tale in the Grand Hotel," premiered in 1934 at the Theater an der Wien, operetta expert Christian Thausing brings a delightful film and comedy parody about a crazy, eccentric, and anachronistic society to the Kiel Opera House stage for the first time.
