Sunday Chamber Music – 3 is the third installment in the Budapest Festival Orchestra’s Sunday Chamber Music series for the 2026–2027 season. Held in the BFO Rehearsal Hall at Selmeci utca 14–16 in Budapest’s 3rd district, the series spotlights BFO musicians performing in intimate chamber settings. This approximately 100-minute program spans three centuries, from Rossini’s Classical-era string writing and Tchaikovsky’s Romantic orchestral colors reimagined for a small ensemble to 20th‑century works by Florent Schmitt and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Each piece is performed by a distinct subset of BFO players, highlighting their versatility across contrasting instrumentations. A notable feature is Peter Kostyal’s chamber transcription of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, which distills the ballet’s familiar dances for two violins, viola and double bass, emphasizing melodic character within a conversational chamber texture.
