About this event
The 2nd Symphony Concert presents three Latin-inflected works tracing a musical arc from Argentina via Catalonia to Andalusia. It opens with Alberto Ginastera’s Dances from the ballet “Estancia,” Op. 8a, driven by malambo rhythms and wide-sky imagery of the pampas. At the center is Xavier Montsalvatge’s Sinfonietta-concerto for flute and orchestra (1967), where the solo flute shines amid Mediterranean warmth and touches of neoclassical bite. The evening closes with Manuel de Falla’s Suite from “El amor brujo,” steeped in Andalusian folk idioms, moving between tender lyricism and eerie sonorities, and featuring the famed Ritual Fire Dance.
