About this event
We the People is a special concert event in Washington National Opera’s 2026/27 season, performed on the Revolutionary Stage at DAR Constitution Hall. The Revolutionary Stage is a 270-degree thrust configuration designed by Walt Spangler, placing audiences in an immersive, cafe-style setting around the performers. The concert explores humanity’s enduring longing for liberty through some of opera’s most stirring music. The event features three soloists at distinct career stages: soprano Renée Fleming; baritone Thomas Hampson; and soprano Amber R. Monroe, the 2026/27 Marian Anderson Vocal Award winner and a WNO Cafritz Young Artist alumna. Integrating the Marian Anderson Award winner into this shared concert underscores the award’s mission of championing young American singers alongside renowned artists. The evening is conducted by WNO Music Director Robert Spano with the WNO Orchestra.
