Young director Katharina Kastening, already known to Wuppertal audiences for her acclaimed staging of THUMBPRINT, takes a close look at Verdi’s penultimate opera. She probes the work with nuance and brings new female perspectives to the stage. Verdi’s score unfolds with expansive melodic arches, passionate drama, and an unsettlingly topical theme—an operatic experience that gets under the skin. Design team: set by Matthias Kronfuss, costumes by Devi Saha, video by Frouke ten Velden. Recommended for ages 16+ and for anyone who appreciates drama, Italian opera, and large choral scenes.
