This special concert celebrates the 40th anniversary of violinist Yasushi Toyoshima’s professional career. Toyoshima has served for about two decades as concertmaster of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra (PAC Orchestra), and this program was curated in his honor. The title “Bach! Berg! Beethoven!” links three composers whose surnames begin with the letter B—a programming idea the Center’s chief producer, Toshihisa Yokomori, calls “a very beautiful program connecting them through the initial B.” The evening spans three centuries of concerto writing: Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, Berg’s Chamber Concerto, and Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. Toyoshima is the soloist in the Beethoven and also appears as the obbligato violinist in the Bach alongside harpsichord and flute. In Berg’s technically demanding Chamber Concerto, pianist Makoto Ueno joins as co-soloist, while Shin-ichiro Nakano (harpsichord) and Yeji Shin (flute) feature in the Bach. Daichi Deguchi conducts the Hyogo PAC Orchestra.
