A recital where the saxophone, born in the 19th century, bridges centuries to meet the Baroque. Under the concept “The Encounter of Modern and Baroque,” the program pairs saxophone with the harpsichord (the keyboard player also performs on piano), creating a dialogue between eras. Arranged Baroque works by J. S. Bach and Corelli stand alongside contemporary pieces by Fazil Say and Miho Hazama, plus arrangements of Purcell, Piazzolla, Kosma, and Menken—tracing a stylistic arc from Baroque through tango and jazz to film music. Nobuya Sugawa, a leading figure of the Japanese saxophone world, switches between soprano and alto saxophones to color each piece, while his long-time partner Minako Koyanagi bridges the sound worlds on piano and harpsichord.
