Katsura Bunchin, a leading master of Kamigata (Kansai) rakugo, returns to the Hyogo Performing Arts Center for his annual solo show. Subtitled “Haute Couture of Stories,” the performance promises bespoke storytelling, tailored to the audience on the day. Its distinctive format is a request-based “yose”: audience members vote in advance via an online form, and the day’s program is assembled from those requests, making each performance unique. Renowned for both classical rakugo and incisive new works, Bunchin delivers multiple characters using only a fan and hand towel, showcasing the essence of Kamigata rakugo. Presented by Hyogo Prefecture and the Hyogo Performing Arts Center, with planning and production by Yoshimoto Kogyo, this long-running series is a beloved annual tradition at the venue.
