This concert is part of the Juilliard Orchestra's 2026–27 season at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. The Juilliard Orchestra, composed of students from the school's orchestral program, performs under the baton of faculty member and alumnus Jeffrey Milarsky (BM '88, MM '90, percussion). Milarsky is known for his advocacy of contemporary music and his role as music director of the AXIOM new music ensemble at Juilliard. He made his New York Philharmonic debut in 2015 conducting the Contact! series. The program centers on Valerie Coleman's Renaissance Concerto, a work by a Juilliard faculty composer that serves as the featured piece. The concerto is paired with orchestral works by Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff, creating a dialogue between 20th‑century Russian tradition and a living American compositional voice. The concert continues Juilliard's tradition of presenting student performers with faculty conductors at Alice Tully Hall, combining canonical repertoire with contemporary works.
